Grading System
Qualities of the student that will be assessed and evaluated by the primary E-RYT (JJ Gormley-Etchells) consist of performance, participation, attitude, team effort and application of theories. The demonstration of teaching skills will be assessed and evaluated by primary faculty and peers.
A final exam is issued for each certification program as a take-home comprehensive open-book exam. Students can expect to spend between 30 and 70 hours on the exam. Students must pass this exam with a 90% grade or better to receive certification. Students may be asked to retake all or part of an exam or may be asked to take a workshop(s) over again if that particular area of study seemed to be lacking.

Attendance
Regularity of attendance is important for progress and success of the student and necessary to complete the program within a timely manner.
Attendance requirements are different for correspondence students than for students enrolled in a set program at a particular location that has a set start and set stop date (Location Enrolled Students). Correspondence students pay the regular admin fee of $1500 for each program. Students joining a program at a particular location have a reduced admin fee ($1200) because those students require less administrative work from JJ than correspondence students.
Attendance requirements for Location Enrolled Students: Each month (except in July and August) a 10 to 15-hour weekend workshop is offered that the student is expected to attend. Schedules for the programs are available on-line or at each center where the training takes place.
Up to two missed weekends: If a student must miss a weekend workshop due to illness or other unforeseen obligation, the student must make-up the hours with an appropriate teacher and workshop at the student’s expense. The subject matter in the missed class must be made-up by sharing notes with a fellow student.
Three to Five missed weekends: If a student misses a third or up to five weekends, the student must make-up the missed hours with the particular teacher of the workshop(s) missed. For example if the student misses a workshop with JJ, the hours must be made up with a workshop from JJ (or JJ may approve of an alternate solution on a case-by-case basis) at the student’s expense. The subject matter in the missed class must also be made-up by sharing notes with a fellow student.
More than Five missed weekends: If a student misses more than five weekends, the student in then considered a correspondence student and must pay the additional administrative fee before graduation. The subject matter missed must still be made up by sharing notes with a fellow student; and for the hours missed, the student must consult with JJ on appropriate workshops the student could take.
SKYPE courses may also be offered (for courses that are more theoretical or lecture-based) and the student may choose to use these classes as a way to make-up hours missed or for additional learning. Schedules for the programs are available on-line or at the venue for the program.
Attendance for Correspondence Students: Since correspondence students are collecting hours as they can and where they can, there are no specific attendance requirements. However, a student must make contact with JJ via email or otherwise at least once per quarter (except summer)or at least three times per year with a short notification of status and updates on progress. If more than three quarters go by and a student does not contact JJ, they will be considered withdrawn from the program.
Correspondence students may take classes at a nearby studio for some of the hours, but they must meet the minimum required contact hours with JJ before graduation. These contact hours must be met at a location where JJ is teaching. The correspondent student should keep abreast of JJ's teaching schedule: click here for JJ's travel schedule
SKYPE
courses with JJ may also be offered (for courses that are more theoretical or
lecture-based) and the student may choose to use these classes as a way
to make-up hours missed or for additional learning. Schedules for the
programs are available on-line or at the venue for the program. SKYPE courses count as contact hours with JJ.

Transfer From One Program to Another Students starting in one program and needing to transfer to a different program may do so at the approval of the School and with a $50 transfer fee. For example, students beginning as a Location Enrolled Student at the 300-hour level, and falling behind in the courses taken, may find themselves needing to choose between moving to Correspondence Student status (the higher admin fee will need to be paid upon transfer*, or if there is another 300-hour program beginning at the same location, they may transfer to that program to finish their own course work. Or, a student moving from one location to another, may enroll in the new location's program with a $50 transfer fee.
*The admin fee for correspondence students is $1500, for location enrolled is $1200, the $300 difference will need to be paid as the transfer takes place as follows. Correspondence students pay $750 at the start of the program, while Location Enrolled students pay $600. The $150 difference must be paid as the transfer takes place and the second and final payment due at half-way through the program becomes $750.

Termination, Withdrawal and/or Leave of Absence and Re-entrance
The basic philosophy of yoga seeks to achieve a deep level of transformation of the human personality which includes attitudes and ideas. If the student is not open to change or his/her opinions are seriously impeding the process of communicating the teachings of yoga, then the teacher / student relationship will dissolve in an amicable way.
A written and signed statement with reasons for withdrawal or leave of absence and anticipated time of return is required. Appropriate documentation to validate an absence must be presented. Acceptable justification for reentry at same level: illness of student, accompanied by statement from health professional; illness or death of immediate family member; unexpected family or job responsibilities; financial burdens.
All records of attendance and payment must be updated at time of withdrawal. Student will be held responsible for any additional charges incurred to update personal files. Student will be held responsible for any changes of policies including new study materials and retesting at level of reentry. Reentrance requires adherence to all new program rules and must complete a personal interview with the school’s director and pay all fees due at the time of readmission. Any student who was terminated for conduct may not be readmitted.
